GONNELLA GIVES BACK
Kindness, Fresh from the Oven
Since the 1930s, our ovens haven’t just baked bread—they’ve baked community. From inviting neighbors to bake with us during the Great Depression to powering food donations and hands-on volunteer efforts today, giving back is part of Gonnella’s recipe. We dedicate our resources to support organizations that are important to our employees and their families, including local food banks, first responders, veterans, and nonprofits such as Misericordia, Make-A-Wish, and Food for Friends. See how we’ve been nourishing more than appetites for generations.

WAYS WE GIVE BACK
Our Stories of Giving

MISERICORDIA
Heart of Mercy
We proudly support Misericordia – Heart of Mercy, a Chicago-based community that provides compassionate, person-centered care for more than 600 individuals with developmental disabilities—empowering them with dignity, inclusion, and opportunity.

HISTORIC HELP
Giving back is baked into our DNA! In the 1930s, Gonnella opened its ovens so neighbors could bake their own bread during the Great Depression—a gesture of compassion in hard times.

Make-a-Wish Foundation
Through our support of Make‑A‑Wish, we help grant life-changing wishes to children facing critical illnesses—so they can experience moments of joy, strength, and wonder when they need it most.

FIREFIGHTER SUPPORT
Gonnella regularly donates fresh bread to the Schaumburg, IL fire department as part of our ongoing efforts to support the everyday heroes in our local community.

Food For friends
At Gonnella, we’re honored to support Food for Friends, a Chicago‑based Christian ministry empowering compassionate service with hands-on opportunities to fight hunger and extend care across our community.

Police Department Support
Our Aurora facility contributes bread to the Aurora Police Department for their annual Faith & Blue event—a meaningful tradition that helps bring law enforcement and residents together in fellowship and support.
WHY IT MATTERS
Service is Part of Our Recipe
At Gonnella, community service is more than a program—it’s part of our identity. Whether supporting families in crisis, honoring local first responders, or empowering nonprofits, our efforts reflect the same care and consistency we bake into every loaf. And the benefits extend inward, too—volunteering brings our teams closer and strengthens our shared commitment.
