Gonnella Honored by Loyola University
On the evening of November 29 th , 2011 Gonnella Baking Company was a guest of honor along with many other distinguished family-owned, Chicago businesses by the Loyola University Family Business Center. The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the winners of the 2011 Illinois Family Business of the Year. Awards were given out for small, medium and large businesses. Gonnella Baking Co. received the Century Award, the Loyola Family Business Center's version of a lifetime achievement award.
The Century Award is a special designation handed out by the University. To be considered for this unique award the family business must demonstrate certain qualities:

"We are truly honored to receive the Century Award.", said Nick Marcucci, President of Gonnella Baking Co. "To be recognized by one of the finest education institutions in the country for our business accomplishments is very special. I am proud of my family and proud of this award," remarked Nick.
What started out in 1886 as a small neighborhood bakery in Chicago has grown to a national organization with 5 plants and over 600 employees. Currently about 34 family members work in the business that has spanned four generations since it was founded.
However, Gonnella views all of their employees and people within their community as their family. Gonnella is involved with many charitable organizations such as Easter Seals, Misericordia, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Greater Chicago Food Depository. "Being a part of the community and helping others is important to us," stated Mr. Marcucci.
