Alpena, Mich.— In partnership with Neiman’s Family Market, Gonnella Frozen Products LLC, a division of Gonnella Baking Company, donated funds to the Alpena City and Alpena Township fire departments during Neiman’s May Community Growth program, the grocer's monthly initiative to raise money for community organizations. A portion of sales from seven selected Gonnella bread items was donated to the fire departments in combination with customer donations. “Neiman’s Family Market in Alpena was pleased to present the Alpena City Fire Department and Alpena Township Fire Department with a check for $1,200 from the May Community Growth program,” said Nic Wiser, assistant store director at Neiman’s Family Market. “We plan to use the donations for extra fire and EMS staff training that we otherwise could not afford to do,” said Bob Kaszubowski, manager of the Alpena Township Fire Department. “We were so fortunate to be part of such a generous opportunity.” Nathan Blacquiere, bakery technician for Gonnella, was on hand for the check presentation at the market. “Gonnella is proud to partner with Neiman’s Family Market and its customers for fundraiser promotions like this within the community,” he said. Making contributions and participating in community service events is part of the Gonnella culture. One of its corporate goals is to contribute time, energy and resources to support the communities it serves. Gonnella also participated in United Way’s “A Day of Caring” in Hazelton, PA and raised more than $7,000 to restore a historic park pavilion in Freeland, PA. Founded in 1886, the Gonnella Baking Company celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2011. Still family owned and operated today, Gonnella produces more than four million pounds of product weekly at its three Chicago area facilities in addition to its plant in Hazle Township, Pennsylvania.
